To celebrate the world premiere of the opera A Dream of Armageddon at the New National Theatre, Tokyo (NNTT) between 15 - 23 November 2020, Kazushi Ono (Conductor and Artistic Director of Opera, NNTT), Dai Fujikura (Composer) and Harry Ross (Writer) will give a special live talk online on 5 November 2020.
A Dream of Armageddon is an adaptation of the short science fiction by H.G. Wells depicting the anxiety over science and technology that lead to world war and mass murder. Dai Fujikura (music) and Harry Ross (libretto) transform the story into an opera that freely transcends space and time, with a thrilling portrayal of the threats around us who live in the present age.
The international staff and cast of the opera have travelled to Japan earlier than originally planned in order to meet COVID-19 travel requirements and self-isolate before joining the rehearsals.
In this special talk, the speakers will describe their journey to realising the production, and share their thoughts on the value of the arts and international collaboration, and the significance the work in current times.
