Ruth Waters, a young British artist, has been selected as an artist in residence for the ARCUS Project 2019, based in Moriya City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Ruth Waters, who studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College and is currently working in London, is interested in the “unease” generated among the inhabitants of our highly networked modern-day society by excessive communication. During the residency, she will research the ways in which human beings think about space and space travel, as well as the phenomena called “existential crises”, and present the creative process.

Italian artist Christopher Beauregard and Japanese artist Takuya Watanabe have also been selected for the same programme. As well as an open studio in which the artworks created by the three artists during the residential programme will be on show, related events such as talk shows and kids’ tours will also be held.

Dates: Wednesday 4 September - Thursday 12 December 2019
Venue: ARCUS Studio
