The Events, a play by Scottish playwright David Greig, will make its Japan debut as the second performance in the "Kotozen" series by the New National Theatre Tokyo’s Artistic Director Drama, Eriko Ogawa. This work, which is based on the mass shooting carried out by a far-right youth on Norway’s Utøya island in 2011, was first performed at "Edinburgh Festival Fringe" in 2013 to great critical acclaim. There are two characters. The actor playing the young criminal also acts out various other roles to a female choir director who survived the shooting. Moreover, the choir and accompanists do not merely sing, they participate in the play as the chorus from a Greek tragedy. The work is produced by Minamoza theatre company’s leader, Misaki Setoyama, and translated by Takehiko Tanioka. Performed in Japanese with English and Japanese surtitles.
