Julian Opie’s first large-scale solo exhibition at a Japanese art gallery in 11 years. Julian Opie is known for his characteristic portrait style with an emphasis on outlines, in which the simple use of minimal points and lines results in lively depictions of people and scenery. This completely new method of visual representation, born out of the use of materials from our everyday surroundings, such as LED displays and billboards, in addition to more traditional media for painting and sculpture, is full of a hybrid appeal and translates well into graphic design and pictograms. This exhibition centres on new paintings, sculptures, and videos chosen by the artist himself and shown to the public for the first time, introducing visitors to the current world of Julian Opie, one of the UK’s leading artists.
