New Year Ballet is an extravaganza heralding the beginning of a new season. DGV Danse à Grande Vitesse, the latest one-act dance by Christopher Wheeldon, the British choreographer active internationally, will receive its Japan premiere. The music is Michael Nyman’s MGV (Super high-speed music), composed to commemorate the opening of the French TGV high-speed train line between Paris and Lille. The stage takes a journey as its theme, with a set including a train based on the TGV; on it, four couples perform a group dance depicting the romance and out-of-the-ordinary atmosphere of journeys. Alongside this, the colourful and varied programme allows the audience to enjoy everything from Balanchine’s Serenade and Raymonda and Le Corsaire to a collection of pas de deux.
