Bebop, a type of dance performed to jazz music, appeared in the UK in the latter half of the 1980s. Sound Cream Steppers and STAX GROOVE, dance crews who have carried on the Bebop tradition in Japan, will invite Wayne James, one of the original three-member dance team Brothers in Jazz which launched Bebop, to Tokyo. Brothers in Jazz were active in Japan at the start of the 1990s, appearing in commercials, fashion shows, and concerts. James, who is visiting Japan for the first time in almost 20 years, will not only take to the stage at a reception and workshops, but also be a guest performer at “Boppin Jive”, a festival drawing Bebop fans from across Japan.
