As a part of our Music Education Project, the British Council, in partnership with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, presented a series of training sessions for orchestral musicians and creative learning workshops for young people and families in March 2014.
The training was led by Lincoln Abbotts, a musician, composer and animateur who has worked with UK orchestras and organisations to develop education and professional development programmes. He has worked extensively throughout the UK and overseas, and with the BBC Symphony Orchestra which is committed to adventurous and innovative education work which opens up the diverse repertoire the orchestra plays to as wide an audience as possible.
Joined by six musicians from the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the training programme provided a capacity building opportunity for the Japanese musicians, developing their skills and building their confidence to lead creative learning work better. The highlight of the programme were the two creative music workshops, the Family Orchestra and the children’s workshop, where the Japanese musicians collaborated with British musicians to deliver creative workshops for over 120 young people and family members.
